U14 Girls Red

Beat Telluride twice over the weekend. The first score is unavailable, the second was 7 – 2.

 

U13 Girls White

Beat Telluride 3 – 1, and  5 – 0

 

The U13 Girls White played U14 Red on Monday evening for the final league game of the season.  After excellent play by both teams,  the U13 came out on top 3 – 1.  One of the highlights of the game was excellent goal tending by both Morgan Omer of the U13 and Clara Beshoar of the U14.  Both  deflected off numerous shots on goal. 

 

U12 Boys Black

U12 Boys White

U12 avalanche white defeated Moab 5-2 to repeat as league champions for the second straight season. As a team they averaged 4 goals a game with the defense giving up just over 1 goal a game. Typically playing with 1 or no subs the entire team really came together and because of their effort they came away with great results and tremendous growth individually and together.

 

U12 Boys Red

Lost to Moab  2 – 5

Jonathan Zuniga and Trevor Jackson each scored for the team.  

 

U11 Girls Red

Tied Durango United Sparks 3 -3

Lost to Durango United Strikers 5 -3

 

Montrose Avalanche Red U12 Girls came out strong in Game 1 on Saturday against Durango United Sparks.  They had never been scored on during the season until Shayla Geesing scored on them early in the game.  It was a tight game all the way through with and end score of 3-3.  Caroline Graham scored and Shayla ended up with two goals.  Elliott had great saves the entire game!

 

Game 2 met with fierce competition and it was the first real challenge we saw all season.  We were up 2-0 as Shayla Geesing put two goals in.  Durango United Strikers ended up with two penalty kicks near the end of the game to end up leading 5-3.  Shayla scored the 3rd goal and Elltiott Howe again made numerous saves!  Our girls ended up a bit banged up but never gave up and are preparing for the Durango Shoot-out.  

 

We ended our regular season 6-1-1 – what an awesome improvement from last season.  These girls have stuck together and are looking forward for a great fall season! – Coach Dunnagan

U10 Boys 

 

Beat OCSA Cougars (Ouray County) 2 – 1

Beat Pagosa Springs FC Pirates 9 – 0

 

The U10 boys team finished the season strong with two wins on Saturday against the OCSA Cougars United (Ouray County) and Pagosa Springs FC Pirates.  The first game ended against OCSA ended in a 2-1 victory with JT Imus and Leon Valdez each scoring a goal.  In the second game they won 9-0 with Brendan Ullmann and Leon Valdez each scoring two goals and Cody Zimmer, Jorge Pacheco, Trey Reese, Nick Shearer, and Luke Lodato scoring once each.  These boys had a great first season with the Avalanche and one accomplishment we are especially proud of is that during the season every player scored at least one goal!

 

 

 

U10 Girls

 

Beat Prostar New Mexico White Team  6 – 1

Beat Cortez Galaxy 1 Team  – 11- 0

 

The U10 Avalanche Girls Team were victorious in both games Saturday and tied for 2nd out of 9 teams in the Southwest League! Great Job by the entire team.

Game 1 vs Prostar New Mexico White Team~ we won 6 ~ 4

Shae Vang led with 3 goals in the first half and 2 goals in the second half

Josey Coulter had 1 goal in the 2nd half

Goal Keeper Reagan Smuin had 4 saves

Game 2 vs the Cortez Galaxy 1 Team~ we won 11 ~ 0

Taylor Yanosky and Tatum Hanley both scored 1 goal in the first half, Shae Vang had 2 goals in the first half.

In the 2nd half, Sarah Imus and Tatum Hanley both scored twice. Taylor Yanosky, Ava Vang, and Lydia Stryker all had 1 goal to end the regular season. Goal Keeper Reagan Smuin had 6 saves

The U10 Girls will play May 18th and 19th in Grand Junction at the GMIT Tournament.

]]> Highlights… April 27, 2013

Avalanche teams played  in Montrose, Ridgway and Durango and, once again, had another successful weekend.

 

U10 girls

Beat Durango United Spirit  5 – 1,   Shae Vang lead with 3 goals, Josie Coulter had 2

Tied Prostar New Mexico Red 1 – 1, Shae Vang had the goal

 

U10 Boys

 

The U10 boys played in Durango on April 27th and split their games.  In the first game they beat Cortez Dynamo 1 by a score of 10-1.  Nick Shearer, Leon Valdez, and Kyle Blakley each scored one goal, Cody Zimmer and JT Imus scored two goals a piece, while Trey Reese scored a hat trick with 3 goals.

Montrose Avalanche Red U12 Girls had a great weekend coming out with a 4-0 victory! They had great passes and team play. The girls are doing everything we are teaching them to do in practice with awesome execution! -Coach Dunnagan

Goals were scored by Shayla Geesing, Taylor Hobbs, Esthefania Lopez, Tate Dunnagan, Jasmine Marquez and Elliott Howe.

Goals were scored by Shayla Geesing, Taylor Hobbs and Jasmine Marquez.

Elliott had 4 saves and Tate Dunnagan had 2 saves as Keepers

 

Sunday Game 1: 4-1 against Telluride Red

Goals were scored by Shayla Geesing and Tate Dunnagan

Elliott Howe had 6 saves and 1 Goal Assist as Keeper

 

Sunday Game 2: 5-0 against Telluride Black

Goals were scored by Shayla Geesing, Caroline Graham, Taylor Hobbs

Elliott Howe had 2 saves and Georgia Smits had 4 assists as keepers

 

 

U12 Girls White

Lost to Crested Butte White   2-1

Tied Crested Butte White 0 -0 

 

Also played Telluride Red and Black in two “friendlies” on Sunday and won both with shutouts. 

 

U12 Boys Red

Beat Crested Butte White 6 -1

We had a good game with five different kids scoring.  Alex Roman scored twice for his first goals of the season. Bryan Prado scored his first goal of the season also.  Trevor Jackson, Onesimo Paredes, and Victor Ortega also scored, but the hero of our game was Cayden Christianson.  Cayden had his best game of the season,  he played some incredible defense.  He kept the ball on the attacking third all day long.  – Coach Hilton

The win put us back into first place in the league with two games to go. It is very exciting to watch the boys improve all of their skills each game and to come together as a team. All of the players are improving their individual skills and incorporating them into a team game. – Coach Imus

The U-14 Boys won the SWSL league with a 7-0-1 record.  The goal scorers with two goals were Brett Byers, Darren Culmer, Osmar Murillo, Jed Sanchez, and Liam Singh while the single goal scorers were Prajwol Chaudhary, Dakota Guidroz, and Jace Zunich.

U12 Boys Black begin their season 2 -0

  • To start their spring 2013 campaign, the newly assembled U-12 Boys Avalanche Black team came away with two wins beating Durango Chaos 3-1 and Moab Red 5-2 … A great start to what will be a fun and successful year.  This is one of 3 new Avalanche teams this spring.  This team is coached by Sean Donohoe.

 Montrose Avalanche  U12 Girls White team loses one, ties one, plays hard

 

  • Although they  played well,  the U12 Girls White team lost their first game against last years SWL champion, Durango United Flash, 0-2, both goals coming on penalty or indirect kicks.
  • Montrose controlled possession for much of the second game against the Durango United Strike Force, but the game ended in a 1-1 tie. It could have been a loss, however, without a great penalty kick save by goalkeeper Lilian Davis.

 

U12 Boys Avalanche Red win two

 

“The first games of the season are always hard, but it is nice to get back in the swing of things .  We traveled through the bad weather and played in the cold. However, we had two great games. I’m very proud of my whole team.”  – Coach Hilton

 

  • First ,they played Tri-city SA San Juan Firestorm. This was the team that knocked them out of the championships last year in the semi-finals. They triumphed 4-0 with excellent defensive play by Bryan Prado and Tyler Hilton with Gregory Sheya in the goal.   They worked hard up front as well.  Trevor Jackson and Victor Ortega each scored one, but Onesimo Parades was the big scorer in this game with two goals.  Alex Roman showed  a lot of improvement over the winter, playing indoor must of helped.
  • The second game was against Durango United Thunder. This is the team that knocked them off for the championship at the Grand Junction Tournament in the fall.   Again, outstanding play by the entire team brought them a 2 -1 victory.   Trevor Jackson scored their two goals.  Excellent play all over the field by new comer Morgan Boyers and mid-field action by  Jack Yarnell  supported the strikers in their efforts to score goals.   Jose Ortega, Cayden Christianson, Victor Ortega and Tyler Hilton played superb defense.

New referees are needed for the spring soccer season!  The MSC has scheduled a Grade 8 Clinic for February 1, 2, and 3, 2013.  A Grade 8 Referee can be the center referee or assistant referee for any of our Southwest League games. The clinic is 17 hours with the specifics as follows:

The $75 class fee will be reimbursed by the Club after you referee two games.  Referee’s also get paid each game by the following schedule:
U12 – $22 center, $16 assistant/line
U14 – $28 center, $22 assistant/line
U15-18 – $49 center, $33 assistant/line
Please consider helping support soccer in Montrose by becoming a referee.  We also may hold a Grade 9 Clinic the following weekend, which is a 9 hour course, but is less useful because a Grade 9 referee can only assistant/line ref our Southwest League games.  Stay tuned for more info on this potential clinic.

Montrose Avalanche U-14 Girls Red took home the win for the second consecutive year during the last weekend of October at the CYS tournament in Grand Junction. Montrose came in knowing that the Grand Junction Fire was going to be tough and ready to play to win back their home title.  Montrose had a big challenge to overcome, that being a lack of players.  Montrose had only eleven players and no substitutes.  At times, when a player had to sit out because of a minor injury, the Avalanche made do with only 10.  Yet the unstoppable Avalanche powered through and made their way to the finals.  In the finals against Grand Junction Fire, they won 2-0 as a result of  their strong defense and goal keeper Clara Beshoar who preserved the shutout.  The Avalanche plowed through the tournament  to  win for the second year in a row. -  Written by Megan Parker   U12 Boys Red take 2nd! The U12 Boys Red team coached by Steve Hilton took second in the u-12 boys division. They lost the championship in a shoot out after two five minute over times against Durango YSA Chaos. U14 Girls Red Team places 1st !

Montrose Avalanche U-14 Girls Red took home the win for the second consecutive year during the last weekend of October at the CYS tournament in Grand Junction. Montrose came in knowing that the Grand Junction Fire was going to be tough and ready to play to win back their home title.  Montrose had a big challenge to overcome, that being a lack of players.  Montrose had only eleven players and no substitutes.  At times, when a player had to sit out because of a minor injury, the Avalanche made do with only 10.  Yet the unstoppable Avalanche powered through and made their way to the finals.  In the finals against Grand Junction Fire, they won 2-0 as a result of  their strong defense and goal keeper Clara Beshoar who preserved the shutout.  The Avalanche plowed through the tournament  to  win for the second year in a row.

U12 Boys Red take 2nd!

The U12 Boys Red team coached by Steve Hilton took second in the u-12 boys division. They lost the championship in a shoot out after two five minute over times against Durango YSA Chaos. The Avalanche had beaten the Chaos earlier in the day 2-0 , but the Chaos came back and held the Red scoreless through two periods and overtime to send it into a shoot out. The Avalanche Red lost the shoot out by two. They had a wonderful year and are looking forward to the spring season. For their first season together as a team, Coach Hilton said they came a long way and they ended the season GP 15 9W 1D 5L GF72 GA31 GD38.

Results – Final day of play for the Southwest Soccer Fall Season

The top four teams from each age division played in Durango this weekend in playoffs. The Avalanche U12 girls white, both U12 boys white and red, U14 girls white and U18 girls qualified and played.  The U14 boys qualified but were unable to play.

  • U12 Boys White team wins the boy’s U12 division !#$!! In the semi-finals Matt Imus’ boys beat the Durango Thunder 5 – 3. In the finals, they  decimated the Tri – City Firestorm 5 -1. The Flash had not scored less than 4 points in any of their other games in their undefeated season. The lone goal for the Avalanche was scored by Olivia Haga.
  • Greg Alex’ U14 Girls White team lost to the Durango Blast 3 – 2. Breanna Bjorge and Rocio Mireles-Rodales scored for the Avalanche.
  • The Terrific Ten! Saturday the U18 girls battled against the U18 Durango United girls team. They only had 10 ladies on the field, no subs. They fought hard tying the game 2-2. The game was put into an immediate PK shootout. They tied in the shootout at 1-1 and that put them into a sudden death final where Durango won. It was one of the most amazing games to watch!

We are now looking forward to spring when our Montrose Lady Indians take the field in pursuit of their best season ever! Come out and support the Lady Indians in March 2013!

In other play this weekend, the Avalanche U12 Girls Red team played two “Friendlies” with Crested Butte. In the first game they lost 3 – 1 . The goal was scored by Shayla Geesing. In the second game they won 4-2. Goals were scored by Shayla Geesing, Caroline Graham(2) and Lexi Kuhn. Tate Dunnagan did an excellent job in goal. They finished strong this weekend with great team play. As one of the youngest teams in the league they are coming together learning new positions and formations.

At the light in front of Wal-Mart (south end of Durango) go west on Escalante Drive. At the first stop sign take a left. At the next stop sign take a right and the school will be immediately on the left

Esc #1 East & West – 6v6 fields at Escalante located next to school
Esc #1 – 11v11 field located at Escalante next to school. Two 6v6 fields run over this
